Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest (MHDSF) is seeking Volunteer Campground Hosts for the Frasier Mill, Shake Camp, Hidden Falls, and Moses Gulch Campgrounds. Enjoy the majesty of a giant sequoia forest without the crowds of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks! Managed by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, MHDSF is in Tulare County approximately 22 miles east of the city of Porterville, California. Campgrounds are generally open from May through October, depending on snow and road conditions. The busy season is Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, except for the ada compliant site at Frasier Mill and the Methuselah Group Campground. Forest staff handle campsite reservations for these two sites. Camp host duties include providing information to campers and forest recreators, communicating issues to forest staff, and some minor cleaning of campground facilities. Campground cleaning and trash removal are completed by forest staff during the weekends. A dirt parking pad, water hookup, bear proof food locker, fire ring, and picnic table are provided in the host sites. Campsites have a bear locker, fire ring, and picnic table. Cell service is extremely limited. The nearest town is Springville, California. The forest has a multitude of trails that take you through old-growth giant sequoias in the Mountain Home Grove, as well as trails that go into the backcountry of Sequoia National Forest, Sequoia National Park, and the Golden Trout Wilderness. Our 34-acre headquarter site in Lake Jackson, Texas, lies on Buffalo Camp Bayou, and is adjacent to Wilderness Park and the Wilderness Golf Course. Ample shopping, dining, and entertainment are within 5 minutes. Previous RV host experience strongly preferred, but not required. Birders and nature lovers a plus. RV Volunteers are a vital part of the sanctuary operation. As RV volunteers, your duties will include grounds maintenance, mowing and gardening, building and equipment maintenance, light cleaning of office building, at times possibly opening and closing facilities, helping with events, nature store or office work. What You'll Be Doing (The Fun Stuff) As a Volunteer Campground Host, you'll get 95% of the fun of running a campground with none of the heavy lifting (literally). You'll be the friendly face greeting campers, sharing local tips, and helping keep things tidy and welcoming. Your day-to-day may include: Welcoming guests and checking them in (bonus points for good jokes). Helping with reservations making, extending, or canceling. Sharing campground rules, nearby hikes, moose etiquette, and where to get the best coffee. Light upkeep restocking restrooms, picking up trash, and keeping common tidy. Reporting anything unusual to staff (you're the eyes and ears, not the enforcer). Being on-call a couple nights a week just in case someone needs help or a bear gets curious. Important note: You'll never be asked to handle dangerous situations. That's what police and ADF&G are for. (Yes, we call them when bears sniff out someones BBQ leftovers.) Schedule Were looking for two hosts to rotate weekly. One week on, one week off plenty of time to explore Alaska in between. Expect about 25 hours per work week, split between office time and campground rounds. We are currently seeking individuals or couples for Golf Course Maintenance and Pro Shop positions for the 2026 season. We are looking for individuals traveling to coastal Maine who can commit to a minimum of 10 weeks during the following periods: ** May 17, 2026 - July 25, 2026 ** July 26, 2026 - October 3, 2026 Maintenence responsibilities include the operation of weed trimmers, push mowers, chainsaws, and riding turf equipment. Experience with small engine maintenance and repair is an added bonus. Prior groundskeeping experience is not necessary, but helpful. The Pro Shop position responsibilities include customer service, tee time coordination, retail sales, accepting payments, and cleaning & sanitizing the rest rooms and common areas. Prior experience in customer service & sales is helpful, but not necessary. Both positions may require gathering golf balls from the driving range at times. Each position requires a minimum of 25 hours per week, per person, with flexible scheduling available.
